Top 5 Dolly Parton Moments of 2013
One of the biggest things we in the Smoky Mountains love about Dolly Parton is that she stays true to who she is, and she isn’t afraid to ruffle a few feathers along the way. To pay tribute to Dolly and her fearless ways, we at Visit My Smokies took a little time and made a list of the top five moments for Dolly Parton in this past year. If you think of one you think we missed, let us know in the comments below!

Unveiling Her Biggest Secret
We are sure that there are plenty of things that Dolly keeps hush hush about, but when we heard that Dollywood was revealing Ms. Parton’s biggest secret we couldn’t help but take a couple guesses at what it could be. We secretly hoped the news would be that Dolly was going to try to take over the capitol building in Nashville and run for Governor, or even that she had plans to treat our friends in Hawaii to their very own Dollywood theme park. We were happy none-the-less to hear about all the new and exciting additions she has planned for our very own Pigeon Forge amusement park!
In case you missed it, the big news was the announcement of the first dual-launch family roller coaster, The FireChaser Express, and the $300 million DreamMore resort set to open summer of 2014 and 2015 respectively.
Being Nominated for a Grammy
It’s always musical gold when Dolly and long-time friend Kenny Rogers get together and sing a duet. This year we were glad to hear that the bigwigs behind the Grammy’s agreed with us, and nominated the pair’s newest song “You Can’t Make Old Friends” for Best Country Duo/Group Performance award. Although we won’t find out until January 26 if they won, there will always be a special place in our hearts for Kenny and Dolly.
Planning A Smoky Mountain Concert
Speaking of Dolly’s music, you can imagine our excitement when the news came out that Dolly was planning on hosting a concert in our very own backyard! As part of her Blue Smoke World Tour, Dolly will be performing in Knoxville on May 28 to benefit her children’s literacy foundation, Imagination Library. Tickets are still on sale for $39.50 (plus tax).

Getting Married
With wedding season just around the corner, you can imagine our excitement when Dolly announced that her and long-time husband Carl Dean were planning on renewing their wedding vows for their 50th anniversary. Dolly and Carl first met outside of a laundromat in Nashville right after she moved to the big city. After a couple years of dating, Dolly and Carl tied the knot in May of 1966. Fingers crossed that Dolly knows about all the great wedding tips we have on our site so her wedding will be just as beautiful as she is!
Dolly Parton Statue to be Replaced With Miley Cyrus
Although there was a lot of real Dolly news to keep us entertained in 2013, we couldn’t help but to throw in a little fun around April Fool’s Day. It’s a well known fact that Dolly Parton is the Godmother to Miley Cyrus, and as a joke we announced on April 1 that the city of Sevierville has plans to replace the iconic Dolly statue in front of the courthouse with one of her pop star goddaughter. Although this was said in jest, we can’t say that we would hate to see the two talented songstresses come together for a song or two. See for yourself why we say this by watching this video of Miley covering Dolly’s timeless song ‘Jolene.’
