Dolly Parton Planning a Visit to East Tennessee
Mark your calendars! Tickets go on sale this week for Dolly Parton’s May concert in Knoxville. The show will raise money for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
WBIR reported that tickets would be $59.50, $49.50 and $39.50 plus tax. Her last performance in Knoxville was in 2011, so make sure to grab your tickets before they sell out!
Making the big announcement earlier this month on her Facebook page, Dolly announced the charitable concert will be held in Knoxville on May 28, 2014. Until the announcement, her tour only consisted of European and Australian dates, but, now, she has added dates to keep the Blue Smoke World Tour going.
The special Smoky Mountain concert will benefit Parton’s child literacy program Imagination Library. A world-wide program, Imagination Library was started as Dolly’s effort to ensure that every child would have age-appropriate books.
Since its beginning in 1996, the program has given nearly 40,000,000 books to 700,000 children. The Imagination Library has improved childhood literacy and was proudly started right here in Sevier County.
Dolly Parton has not visited the area since helping kick off her Pigeon Forge amusement park Dollywood’s 2013 season. During her visit to Pigeon Forge, she also announced plans for a $300 million resort and dual launch roller coaster, which was unveiled November 19. The FireChaser Express will open in Spring 2014, while the DreamMore Resort is set to open sometime in the summer of 2015.
