Dolly Parton Earns SECOND Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Hollywood is doubling down on Dolly Parton! It was recently announced that our Smoky Mountain hometown hero will be getting a second star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the iconic public monument dedicated to achievement in the entertainment industry. Dolly received her first Walk of Fame star way back in 1984.

This time, Parton is being honored along with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt, with whom she recorded the hit album Trio. Released in 1987, Trio sold over 4 million copies and earned the three women a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. Parton, Harris, and Ronstadt also released a sequel album, Trio II (1999), and a special compilation with alternate takes and unreleased tracks called The Complete Trio Collection (2016).

The First Woman of the 21st Century to Have Two Stars

A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.Dolly’s second star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame puts her in truly rarefied company. In fact, Dolly is the first woman of the 21st century to snag a second star! Only seven recording artists currently have two Walk of Fame stars in the same category:

  • Diana Ross – as a solo artist and a member of The Supremes
  • Michael Jackson – as a solo artist and a member of The Jackson 5
  • Smokey Robinson – as a solo artist and a member of The Miracles
  • John Lennon – as a solo artist and a member of The Beatles
  • Paul McCartney – as a solo artist and a member of The Beatles
  • George Harrison – as a solo artist and a member of The Beatles
  • Ringo Starr – as a solo artist and a member of The Beatles

Interestingly, Cher could have had two stars on the Walk of Fame but she declined to make the mandatory personal appearance when she was chosen in 1983. However, she did attend the unveiling of the Sonny & Cher star in 1988 as a tribute to her ex-husband Sonny Bono, who had recently passed away.

Dolly Reacts to the News

Soon after the big news broke, Dolly released a video on Twitter thanking the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for her latest honor. Read her quote below:

“This is Dolly and I am so excited that I have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! Well, not just me, but with two of my best friends, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris, the Trio. Now, they tell me that I’m the first person this century, the first woman, to have two stars. But of course, that’s natural. I like to do things in pairs, if you know what I mean. But I really am excited. So, thank you!”

Dolly truly does have a knack for doing things in pairs. Earlier this year, Parton set two Guinness World Records! Dolly was recognized for being the female artist with the most hits on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, having released an astounding 107 hits over the years. Dolly also holds the record for the most decades (six) with a Top 20 hit on the Hot Country Songs chart.
