Bringing the sea to the mountains is Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, located in Gatlinburg. This large aquarium offers a true deep sea experience with more than 10,000 exotic sea creatures, comprised of 350+ species. You’ll be amazed – a true underwater adventure awaits you at Ripley’s Aquarium.

Entertaining to all ages, the Gatlinburg aquarium offers 10 exhibits including the Tropical Rainforest, Shark Lagoon, Gallery of the Seas, Penguin Playhouse, Touch a Ray Bay, Coral Reef, Systems Control and Discovery Center. Here you’ll be able to get up close and personal with stingrays, sharks, sea turtles and more. You can even pet the stingrays, hold a crab and more! There are tons of hands-on exhibits for all ages.

Be sure to visit the aquarium’s newest addition, the Penguin Playhouse, a $5 million expansion where a colony of Blackfooted penguins lives in a state-of-the-art indoor/outdoor habitat. The Penguin Playhouse features underwater tunnels so you can see the penguins swimming around. You’ll also be able to get up close and personal near the penguins’ private beach!

Conveniently located in downtown Gatlinburg, Ripley’s Aquarium is open 365 days a year, except for some holidays. While at the aquarium, be sure to stop by the Cargo Hold gift shop for unique items and mementos. The Feeding Frenzy is also available for dining.
