4 Important Things to Remember When Visiting the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Traveling to the Smoky Mountains should be at the top of everyone’s to-do list! There are a few things everyone needs to know for a visit to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, so we have made a list of things to remember.
The Park is a Natural Habitat for Wildlife
It is important for families to remember when they are in the national park, they are stepping into the natural habitat of many wildlife animals. There are many animals like black bears and deer that live in the Smoky Mountains. These creatures are beautiful to look at, but we must remember, when we are hiking, we are entering their territory. So, make sure to respect the national park and the animals in it.
There are Two Pet-Friendly Trails
Many families travel with their pets, but don’t forget there are only two trails that allow pets in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Gatlinburg Trail and the Oconaluftee River Trail are the only two pet-friendly trails. These trails are short distances, perfect for a family wanting to experience just a little bit of the mountains with their furry friend. Make sure you have your pet on a leash while you’re in the mountains!
You Will Have Limited Cell Phone Service
When you are hiking in the Smoky Mountains, you should always tell someone how long you plan to be hiking and what time you plan to return from the mountains. At some of the lower elevations, you may have cell phone service, but as you hike deeper into the mountains, you are likely to lose signal. It’s always better to be safe and let someone know where you’re hiking!
All of the Restaurants and Attractions Sit Outside the National Park
Many people ask where they can find things to do in the national park. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a wilderness area, so there aren’t any restaurants, attractions or gas stations once you enter the park. Make sure you fill your hungry appetites, and your gas tank, before you head out on a hike or auto tour through the mountains.
