Take a Look Back at 2014: A Smoky Mountain Year in Review

2014 has been an amazing year in the Smoky Mountain area and we are so excited to see all of the exciting things that 2015 has in store! We’re put together a few of our favorite moments in 2015 and we are excited to share them with you. 10. Roads Closed in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park

In the final week of January 2014, the winter weather definitely made its way to the Smoky Mountains, causing various road closures throughout the season. As most winters, the upper elevations of the mountains were completely frozen, but the views were stunning from all areas of the Smokies. Many guests who were staying in the area during the couple days of snow were really excited to spend some time bundled up in a Smoky Mountain cabin.

9. Have You Seen It? Frogs Take Over Cades Cove!

Frogs–hundreds of frogs! In late February in Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the weather had made some big changes. It was icy and snowy one week and the next week was filled with sunshine and frogs! For many, this was recognized as the first sign of spring in the Smoky Mountains. 8. Coming Soon: Smoky Mountain Subway

On April 1, 2014, Visit My Smokies announced the newest plans to remove the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg trolley systems and have them replaced with a public transportation subway system.
